Judge, Jury and Executioner

Every year at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, students enter artwork into the UNK Art Society’s Annual Undergraduate Student Art Exhibition. I remember entering a couple of pieces when I attended. I may have even picked up an Honorable Mention at some point. This year, however, the tables were turned and I was the one doing the judging. I have a couple of friends who now teach there and they were kind enough to think I was somehow qualified.
What can I say? The experience was grand and I enjoyed it immensely. If I recall correctly, there were around 155 pieces submitted and 37 of them made the show. There was a lot of interesting work and I believe the final selections look really good. John Fronczak, an artist himself as well as the gallery’s director, did a great job of helping the students get the show hung and lit correctly.
